We learn to judge early because we learn to compete and compare at a very young age. Add in the human inclination to tribalism and it's no wonder that we can unknowingly judge people before we even know them.
Being judgmental is an essential survival skill - it's how we make decisions in the absence of complete information. But making judgments can become an unconscious habit that prevents us from learning about new ideas, new experiences, and new people.
An A+ for everyone who thought about, wrote about, and/or worked on their mission statement this week. Refining our worldview, thinking, and talking about our core values is an ongoing process. But getting something down is a huge tool for living your life according to your core beliefs.
