Your bones are secretly stronger than concrete

Human bones are about five times stronger than concrete by weight.

Although bones may feel fragile when we break one, they’re actually marvels of lightweight engineering. Ounce for ounce, bone has a greater resistance to pressure than concrete, making it incredibly efficient for carrying and distributing weight. This strength comes from a combination of collagen (which gives bones flexibility) and minerals like calcium (which provide hardness). That balance lets bones absorb impacts without shattering—most of the time! Pretty impressive for something our bodies build and maintain all on their own.
